Christian Edwards, a senior at Bakersfield Liberty High in California, led all qualifiers in the boys long jump prelims with a wind-aided 24-3.25 (7.39m) effort on his first attempt at the CIF State Championships at Buchanan High's Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis. Edwards also helped Liberty finish fifth in a 4x400-meter prelim heat in 3:22.39, along with securing sixth in a 4x100-meter relay qualifying race in 42.07 seconds.
